Happy 2015! Welcome to a new year of quips and quotes from Srinidhi!

Oct 2015
I am reading a weight loss book. I told Bala and Sri that before you eat anything, ask
"Where's my fiber? Where's my protein? Where's my healthy fat?"
Sri says "I bet that's what you asked when you ate those See's candies mom!"

Mar 2015
Tonight Sri and I were making guacamole. I hadn't such fun in a long time with her since she started middle school. I griped "We need more family time like this!"
Sri says, "Mama, why don't you just enjoy the moment instead of grumbling..we need more time blah blah?"
Out of the mouths of babes and horses!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri and I went to buy bananas at Target. She spotted a pair of denim capris and threw it in the cart.
"What's this?" I asked her.
"Mine! - that's what this is" she says.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flash Brag!
Sri's school had a pi day for 3/14/15. The prizes were pies. Sri created a mnemonic for 100 values of pi as a rap song. She made it to 98 and won the second prize pie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri's said "Mom, I missed the class but I was able to catch up in an hour and I scored
100% in my Python programming class (yep..6th grade kids do this!!)"
She continued "My teacher said have never seen a student like you. Then, he asked - are your parents programmers? and I said
"My mom is a computer tech writer". He said "Then, it must be the genes!"
I looked at her Python code to simulate a roulette and said "Perhaps, there is
reverse genetics?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri plays soccer and basket ball and has lost weight. I just told her "You look so beautiful!" She nodded "I know."
So, I asked "How do you know? Do others at school tell you as well?"
Sri says "No, but they are thinking it!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri's school staged a musical version of Legally Blonde. She was given a minor role for a couple of minutes as the Store Manager. After the play, Sri asked "How was my makeup?".
"Adorable!" I said.
She complained "Mom, they spent hours doing makeup for all these girls who were merely extras. I had a solo performance. And I hinted that I love mascara. But, they just dabbed a little powder and shooed me off!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The school asked parents to write a blurb about our kids in the printed hand-out for the play. Parents had waxed eloquent about their child and what a great role model he was yeda..yeda... I know Sri gets embarrassed if I praise her openly.
So, I simply wrote "SRI ROCKS!" Boy! Was she proud!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend, I was planning to shop at the mall. We went out to dinner and it
was rather late. During dinner, I was hoping to still get to shop. I asked "What time
does Macy's close?". Sri says "As soon as you get into the car!"

Feb 2015
Sri turned 12 on Feb 20! Her class voted her to be the comedian in the school skit!
Sri's reading the Tale of Two Cities for her test tomorrow. She managed to narrate the entire story to me while I cooked. After a while, she lost me. In her summary, she said "So, Dr Manette gets married and has a child named Lanette!" I woke up with incredulity "What!!! isn't he an old man making shoes in jail?" Sri giggled "Goofing off because you weren't listening!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri's story today:
"Mom, my classmates had this basketball match with another school. Our coach was this demure guy just standing there and smiling. The other coach was shouting and yelling "Move it! Faster! Get your booty poppin!"
Our team won!
After the game, the other coach yells at a good player "All those shots you made - they were all fluke!"

Sri's orthodontist gives points for every visit. It's called Kwong points (the doc's name)
and you get 1 or 2 per visit. Sri probed the receptionist for prize details. And she said "Mom, I asked what we can get for these points and they have fancy gifts. And it's 50,000 Kwong points for an iphone. I asked if anyone had ever won it, and they said "Maybe you can try!!"

Jan 2015
Sri wakes early and usually wakes me up. Last morning, she came by and said
"Mom, I was sleepy and tired. Then, I looked at the clock. It read 5:59 a.m.
and I thought, "It is Thu Jan 22, 2015 5:59 a.m. I am never gonna get this 5:59 a.m. again...and rolled out of bed!
How profound!

Sri and I went skiing with friends yesterday. I came down a tough slope later than expected and everyone was waiting for me. Sri shot up, gave me a high five, and burst out (her voice teeming with anxiety) "Mom, I was super worried! You took such a long time coming down!"
11 years of fobbing off career goals, ruling decisions in her favor, bits of sleeplessness, and wee parenting peeves..... paid off that minute!
Bala did not join us for the ski trip. Sri said "Mom, I think dad must have been bored sick at home. You know why? He texted us asking how it's going!!"
